Dear Otto,

we have a dream, and we want you to be part of it.

We dream of 100 hours of live online activity, featuring 100 super-artists: The largest crowdfunding project ever made to help the magicians who have suffered the most during this international pandemic.
 
We dream of creating something special, that everyone in magic can remember—not only in terms of video screens, but with emotional contact that allows our love for magic to become a unique experience that combines the digital world with the real world, and all by helping others.
 
The project is to create a digital conference that combines those worlds, to bring together those who have the opportunity to be present at a live event and those who can only watch from a computer, allowing everyone to join in a magical experience that is greater than the sum of its parts.

Let me be blunt: It’s a crazy project, and not an entrepreneurial one. That’s why I think of it as crowdfunding. If we are able to reach the basic financial goals that will cover our fixed costs, everything more will be donated to charities that help the world of magic. And, if we can’t reach those basic goals, the project will not happen, and simply remain a dream.

Here’s who we have in mind as beneficiaries:

Financial support for contestants at FISM 2022—as they have not earned performing fees in this period, we would help to cover their travel and hotel costs

Project Magic—David Copperfield’s long-running program that uses magic to give therapeutic help for people with physical, psychological, and emotional disabilities.

The Academy of Magical Arts—to help this venerable organization and its club house, the Magic Castle, maintain stability as the world returns to normal.

The Dai Vernon Foundation—a registered charitable group, grown out of the Magic Castle, that provides financial aid to magicians in need.

The Magic Circle Foundation Limited—a charity established to spread knowledge about magic, via shows, lectures, and cultural events, in England and Wales.

Plus other groups that you might suggest.

This dream event will be held on four days: 22, 23, 24, and 25 October. We envision a website with a number of online “magic rooms.” 

A primary performance area which would feature 100 hours of live shows

A dealer room, with displays and demonstrations of 100 hours of products.

A range of rooms for live “jam sessions” where enthusiasts can interact and share ideas in a variety of areas of interest, such as:

Close-Up      
Stage Magic
Mentalism
Bizarre Magick
Escapology
Comedy Magic
Spoken Magic
Zoom Magic
History & Collecting

These virtual rooms would allow each individual to create their own ideal “custom-tailored” live-streaming magic convention.
 
Each user can invite other participants to join in “breakout” rooms, making these virtual sessions even more personalized, combining live and digital elements across the world.
 
To help this happen, I will make available—for free—all of the assets of the live Masters of Magic convention.
 
The entire budget of the United Magicians for the World event will only be allocated to the online part.
 
So where do you fit in? We want to involve all the most important magicians in the world in a unique live-streaming magic event. And I am asking you to participate with a 50-minute live broadcast, during which you can make a presentation. You can talk about yourself, discuss your projects, show or teach effects, and, if you wish, sell products or promote your own events.
 
After the 50 minutes we will give you a special breakout room, where your fans can meet you and meet each other. They can ask you questions. You can get contacts. And, if you want, you can offer an online workshop at a separate charge. We can supply the technological part for free, and help promote it to all participants; all of the proceeds will be yours.

We are aiming for virtual attendance by at least 3,000 magicians from many countries. And, in addition to the promotion, we’ll make sure that your name is included in all of the charitable donations that ensue.

I hope you agree to participate. If you have any questions, I am at your disposal to give the answers. If you decide to join in, I will ask for photos, bio, and so forth, to make you a part of this exciting project.

I know that I am asking for the impossible, but please, really please, let me know your answer, as soon as possible—within 48 hours—because we are already extremely late, and every passing day makes it more difficult to succeed. We’re going to try our best, and we hope you will be with us.
