Eddie Van Halen était un fumeur invétéré. En 2000 il est atteint d'un cancer de la bouche et subit une ablation d'un tiers de sa langue comme traitement.

Il meurt le 6 octobre 2020 à l'âge de 65 ans, des suites d'un cancer de la gorge.
